Puppy Dog Training Services

Since I do in-home training, we can start with your puppy at any age. The perfect time to start is as soon as you get your new puppy home. On the first day of training, we are establishing a feeding and watering schedule. The amount of both food and water will be determined as well as when to feed and water. Plus, we will schedule their bathroom breaks! We will discuss crate training, chew toys, and basic obedience.

All clients receive unlimited in-home, one on one, personal training and unlimited group classes for the dog’s life.

K9 Control’s 12-week puppy training program

Generally, I stop mouthing, nipping, and jumping on the first lesson. We will also start on COME/SIT on the first lesson. A general outline of milestones we try to hit when I start with an 8-week-old pup look like this:

8-10 WEEKS

Stop all jumping, mouthing, and nipping. Install on leash COME/SIT. Have a very structured day for the pup with feeding, watering, potty breaks, play and homework. All work will be inside or in the backyard only.

10-12 WEEKS

We will continue to manage any jumping, mouthing, or nipping. It should however be down by 95%. We will make any adjustments needed to the feeding, watering, and bathroom schedule. Puppy should be very close to sleeping through the night without having to go to the bathroom. We will install a modified version of HEEL/SIT on leash. All work will be inside or backyard only.

12-14 WEEKS

We will make any adjustments needed to the feeding, watering, and bathroom schedule. Your dog should at this point be having very few accidents. We will install the traditional HEEL/SIT on leash. All work will be inside, backyard or driveway only.

14-16 WEEKS

We will make any adjustments needed to the feeding, watering, and bathroom schedule. A large majority of dogs are no longer having accidents! We will install the STAY on leash. All work will be inside, backyard or driveway.

16-18 WEEKS

We will make any adjustments needed to the feeding, watering, and bathroom schedule. Our pup should be 95% potty trained and all its vaccinations done and fully inoculated or very close. At this point we will move our focus outside. The dog will have an excellent working understanding of SIT/STAY/COME/HEEL and now we will test it in the real world.

18-20 WEEKS

We begin training around the neighborhood at parks, even Home Depot or restaurant patios. Keep in mind I accompany you on public outings and can coach you through any problems. You are now encouraged to take your dog with you to as many places as you can. You will also be eligible to attend the group class. These classes are perfect for socializing and advanced obedience. My small classes have 25 dogs and large classes have 50 dogs!
